KPIs & Metrics

Back in Part 01, the Results Matter Most page promised you it wouldn't get into the KPIs themselves, because they were going to get a whole section of their own. This is that section, the one it promised you.

A number only helps you if you know which question it answers. Most teams mix two kinds of numbers together, and once they're mixed, the team ends up reporting whichever one makes the quarter look best, so this section pulls them apart and gives each kind its own page.

Business vs. Product Outcomes covers the numbers that tell you whether the business and the product are actually winning, and Delivery & Flow Metrics covers the ones that tell you whether the work itself is flowing or stuck. Read them in that order, because the first tells you where to aim and the second tells you whether your team can actually get there.
